NGC 748 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Cetus south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 239 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 165,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 762 , among others .
The object was discovered on September 20, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
