NGC 786 is a galaxy of Hubble type S? in the constellation Aries on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 205 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 40,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 792 , NGC 803 , IC 192 , IC 1774 .
The object was discovered on September 26, 1865 by the German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
