NGC 806 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble-type Sc in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 176 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 60,000 ly . Together with PGC 3100716 , it forms a close, gravitationally bound galaxy pair .
The galaxy NGC 811 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on November 1, 1886 by the American astronomer Lewis A. Swift .
