Édouard Jean-Marie Stephan
Édouard Jean-Marie Stephan (born August 31, 1837 in Sainte-Pezenne , today a district of Niort , † December 31, 1923 in Marseille ) was a French astronomer .
From 1867 to 1907 he was director of the Marseille Observatory . In 1879 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences .
In 1866 he discovered the asteroids (89) Julia and (91) Aegina . In 1877 he discovered the galaxy group named after him, Stephans Quintett . He is also the discoverer of numerous nebulae that were later included in the New General Catalog .
