NGC 904 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E3 in the constellation Aries north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 244 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 85,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 903 , NGC 915 , NGC 916 , NGC 919 , among others .
The object was on 13 December 1884 by the astronomer Edouard Stephan using a 80-cm - telescope discovered.
