NGC 899 is an irregular galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type IBm in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 68 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 35,000 ly. Together with NGC 907 and IC 223 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy trio KTS 16 .
The object became the object on November 13, 1835 by John Herschel .
