history

The Danish U20 national ice hockey team was founded in 1979 . Up to and including 1998, the U20 national team covered the entire junior area at the World Championships, while the U19 national team took part in the Junior European Championships. Since the introduction of the U18 World Championships in 1999 , Denmark's U20 national team has only represented the U20 junior level at world championships.

When they first took part in 1979, the Danes took part in the first-ever B-World Championship, where they finished fourth out of eight teams. The Northern Europeans were able to hold onto the second performance level until 1984, but then had to accept the decline. After a year of non-participation, the Danish team played from 1986 to 1988 in the C-World Championship before being promoted again. The team then swung between second and third division for almost 20 years before they were promoted to the top division for the first time at the home tournament in Odense in 2007 . But neither in 2008 nor in 2012 after the renewed promotion did the Scandinavians achieve more than just one last place in the top division. It was not until the 2015 World Cup that the Danes managed to stay in the top division for the first time with eighth place at the tournament in Canada. They were able to repeat this success in the following year, when they lost in the quarter-finals only in extra time against the offspring of the ice hockey superpower Russia . There was also a quarter-final defeat against the Russians at the 2017 World Cup , but this time - due to the better preliminary round results compared to the previous year - the fifth place and thus the best placement in the history of the Danish U20s was associated.
