history

The Polish U20 national ice hockey team was founded for the first official junior world championship in 1979 . Up to and including 1998, the U20 national team covered the entire junior area at the World Championships, while the U19 national team took part in the Junior European Championships. Since the introduction of the U18 World Championships in 1999 , the U20 national team in Poland has only represented the U20 junior level at world championships.

When they first played in 1977, the Poles were last with only one draw (2-2 against the USA ) from seven games and were therefore replaced by Switzerland for the following year . It was only when a B group was introduced in 1979 that the Poles took part again and came third in this second level. Until 1984, when the tournament in Caen, France, was promoted to the A group, the team played in the B group (with the exception of the 1982 World Cup, when they did not participate). But even in the second appearance at an A-WM 1985 only a single point win was achieved in a 3: 3 against the German selection and the Polish team had to relegate to the B group again due to the 14 goals worse goal difference against the Germans. After the immediate resurgence in 1987 , an 8: 3 win against Switzerland made it possible to stay up for the first time. Due to the disqualification of the teams from Canada and the Soviet Union, who had a mass brawl in the final game, the Poles even ended the tournament in fifth place and thus achieved their best ever World Cup result. A year later, Poland was lost and despite a 4: 3 win against the USA, they were level on points with the North Americans and the German team, who lost 3: 6, due to the poorer goal difference. In 1990 and 1997 the Eastern Europeans could not stay in the A group either. Subsequently, the Polish offspring did not succeed in advancing to the highest level of the world championships. Since then she has played mostly second class. In 2004 and 2011, they even had to compete in the third-class Division II, but were immediately promoted back to Division I.
