Dan Jensen (born January 16, 1969 in Richmond Hill , Ontario ) is a former Canadian - Danish ice hockey player who was active for most of his career with the Herning Blue Fox in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen . His son Nicklas is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Dan Jensen grew up in Canada as the son of Danish parents, which is why he has both citizenships. He started his ice hockey career with the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League , one of the major junior leagues in Canada. In his third year he moved within the OHL to the Guelph Platers , where he played the 1988/89 season to the end. Since he saw no chance of a senior contract in North America at that time, the right-shooting defender moved to his parents' home country in the summer of 1989 and joined the first division AaB Ishockey . After a year in Aalborg, Jensen received an offer from the top club Herning IK , which he accepted. In his first two seasons at HIK, he won the Danish championship with the club . Jensen played in Herning for another 13 years, with seven more title wins. He was six times the best point defender of the season and is still the best point defender in league history. In 2005 Jensen ended his active career.

Since the end of his career as a player, Jensen has worked sporadically as a coach for the Danish Ice Hockey Federation. He was in charge of the U18 junior national team at the U18 Junior World Championship in 2007 .

International

Jensen represented Denmark at a total of ten world championships . At his eighth World Cup in Division I in 2002 , he was promoted to the top division with the national team . In the following two years he played in the A-World Championships before he announced his retirement from the national team in 2004.
