Reto Suri (born March 25, 1989 in Zurich ) is a Swiss ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Lugano in the Swiss National League since 2019 .
Career
Reto Suri comes from the junior department of the EHC Kloten , won the championship of the elite junior A in 2006 with the U20 juniors of the EHCK and played his first games in men's ice hockey at his home club. However, Suri could not really assert himself with coach Anders Eldebrink and so he decided to leave the club.
For the 2008/09 season he moved to league rivals Genève-Servette HC , where he signed a contract for the next two seasons. In his first season in western Switzerland, he completed 26 games for the Genève-Servette HC, but was now also at the Lausanne HC in the National League B borrowed. With the LHC he won the National League B championship in 2009. In the 2009/10 season, coach Chris McSorley found more and more pleasure in the style of play and development of Suri and made him a regular player. After a successful qualification phase with Genève-Servette HC, Suri was able to show his potential, especially in the subsequent playoffs, and helped ensure that his team only had to lose the ice in the playoff final against SC Bern .
After the end of the 2010/11 season, Suri decided to return to German-speaking Switzerland and signed a two-year contract with the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers . Although the season was disappointing for the team overall and the league was only kept in the playout final against HC Ambrì-Piotta , this season was personally the most productive for Suri. In a total of 59 games, he scored 18 goals and 16 assists.
In December 2011 Suri decided not to extend his contract with the Lakers, which was due to expire in 2012, but to play for EV Zug from the 2012/13 season , where he signed a three-year contract. In June 2016, he signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning from the National Hockey League , but stayed with EV Zug and ultimately did not play a single game for Tampa. In the 2013/14 season he was Postfinance top scorer with 36 points.
In spring 2017 he reached the playoff final with the EVZ. In November 2018 Reto Suri signed a two-year contract with HC Lugano , which will apply from the 2019/20 season. By the end of the 2018/19 season, Suri had collected a total of 259 scorer points in 395 games for EV Zug. He also won the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup with the club in 2019 .
International
Suri completed a total of 49 games for the U18, U19 and U20 selections of his country. During the 2010/11 season he was also called up for the first time for the Swiss national team. At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki he was appointed to the men's national team for the first time and won the silver medal with it. In the following years he took part in the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2014 , 2015 and 2017 World Championships .
By November 2018, Suri had played a total of 87 international matches for the Swiss national team.
