Raphael Herburger (born January 2, 1989 in Dornbirn , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Lugano in the Swiss National League since 2020 .

Career

Herburger began his career with the various junior teams of the national league participant EC Dornbirn and quickly earned a regular place in the fighting team. In the 2007/08 season he was the most successful Austrian player in the league with a total of 60 points. The following season he signed a contract with the EC KAC and made his debut in the top national division. After a successful first season in which he was able to win the championship title with the club , a bypassed flu in the 2009/10 season meant that Herburger had to end the season prematurely with an inflammation of the heart .

In 2013 he won another championship with the Klagenfurt team and after this success moved to the Swiss National League A for EHC Biel , where he received a two-year contract. Due to a Swiss license from his youth, he did not burden the contingent of foreigners from Biel. Herburger ultimately stayed in Biel until the end of the 2015/16 season and then returned to Austria. At the beginning of May 2016 he signed a contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg .

International

Herburger has also achieved success in international comparisons. He took part in the U18 World Championships in 2006 and 2007 and the U20 World Championships in 2008 and 2009 in Division I with the Austrian youth . With the national team in the U20 age group , he won Division I in 2009 and was promoted to the top division. Herburger contributed six assists to the success and was thus the best template provider of the tournament.

He made his debut in the men's selection of the Alpine country on November 6, 2008 in a 3-2 win against France in Oslo . He played with the team at the World Championships in Division I in 2012 and 2016 and in the top division tournaments in 2013 and 2015 . He also represented his colors at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and at the Olympic qualifying tournament for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang .
