Hnat A. Domenichelli (born February 16, 1976 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Swiss - Canadian ice hockey player of Italian descent, who last played in the Swiss National League A at SC Bern . He was on the ice in a total of 267 games in the National Hockey League for the Calgary Flames , Atlanta Thrashers and Minnesota Wild .
Career
Hnat Domenichelli was selected in the fourth round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Hartford Whalers in 83rd place. After playing for four years in the Western Hockey League with the Kamloops Blazers , Domenichelli made his professional debut with the farm team of the Whalers, the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League , in the 1996/97 season . He also completed 13 games for the Whalers in the NHL that season before being transferred to the Calgary Flames.
In four seasons for the Flames he stepped onto the ice in the NHL in a total of 96 games, but switched to the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for Jason Botterill and Darryl Shannon during the 1999/2000 season together with Dmitri Vlassenkow . His most successful NHL season followed a year later. In 63 games for Atlanta, he scored 15 goals and 12 assists. But during the next season he was given to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Andy Sutton , but continued to play in the NHL.
At the beginning of the new season Domenichelli did not make it into the roster of the Wild, but was used in their farm team, the Houston Eros . There he played alongside Jean-Guy Trudel , with whom he later played in Ambrì. The Houston Eros won the Calder Cup , with the duo Domenichelli (63 scorer points) and Trudel (85 scorer points) playing a major role.
After winning the AHL trophy, he left the organization of the game and signed a contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta , where he played until the 2007/08 season. In the 2005/06 season he was the NLA's top scorer with 35 goals. For the 2008/09 season he moved to HC Lugano.
On the first day of the 2010/11 season, Hnat Domenichelli scored the fastest goal in the history of Swiss ice hockey that was scored at the start of the season. After 24 seconds he scored the first goal in the game against the ZSC Lions . In spring 2014 he finally ended his active career.
Domenichelli has been sports director at HC Lugano since 2019.
