Darryl Jackson Shannon (born June 21, 1968 in Barrie , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 573 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs , Winnipeg Jets , Buffalo Sabers , Atlanta Thrashers , Calgary between 1985 and 2004 Flames and Canadiens de Montréal has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . In addition, Shannon completed another 166 games in the German Ice Hockey League , where he became German champion in 2003 with the Krefeld Penguins . His younger brother Darrin was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Darryl Shannon began his career as a hockey player with the Windsor Spitfires , for which he was active from 1985 to 1988 in the Canadian top junior league Ontario Hockey League and with whom he won the J. Ross Robertson Cup in the 1987/88 season. During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1986 in the second round as a total of 36th player from the Toronto Maple Leafs , for whom he played from 1988 to 1993 as well as for their farm teams from the American Hockey League , the Newmarket Saints and the St. John's Maple Leafs . This was followed by three seasons each with the Winnipeg Jets and the Buffalo Sabers , before the defender was on the ice for the Atlanta Thrashers and the Calgary Flames in the 1999/00 season .
In the 2001/02 season Shannon played for the Canadiens de Montréal , but was only used in seven games in which he was an assist. He also ran in four games for the AHL farm team Quebec Citadelles . The Canadian then went to Europe , where he received a contract with the Krefeld Penguins from the DEL , with whom he became German champions in the 2002/03 season . Following this success, he joined the Eisbären Berlin , with whom he failed in the 2003/04 DEL final at the Frankfurt Lions , whereupon he ended his active career.
