Max Kaminsky Trophy
The Max Kaminsky Trophy is an award from the Ontario Hockey League . It has been awarded annually to the best defender in the OHL since the end of the 1969/70 season . The winner has also participated in the election for CHL Defender of the Year since 1988 . Until 1969, the fairest athletic player was awarded the trophy. Since then, the William Hanley Trophy , which has been awarded since the 1974/95 season, has served for this purpose. Between 1970 and 1974 there was no fairest player award.
The award was presented by Max Kaminsky named the 1960 head coach of the Memorial Cup winning St. Catharines Teepees was and shortly after the success of complications from cancer died.
