Jamie Rivers began his career as a hockey player in his Canadian homeland with the Sudbury Wolves , for whom he was active from 1991 to 1995 in the junior league Ontario Hockey League . During this period he was selected in the third round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft as the 63rd player of the St. Louis Blues . The defender played for the Missouri team from 1995 to 1999, during the first two years mainly for their farm team , the Worcester IceCats , in the American Hockey League and in the following two years he had a regular place in the NHL team . From 1999 to 2002 he was on the ice for one year each for the NHL teams of the New York Islanders , Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins .

The 2002/03 season spent Rivers with the Florida Panthers from the NHL, but played for the team only once and ran for the rest of the season for their AHL farm team San Antonio Rampage . In the 2003/04 season, the Canadian fought for a regular place with the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL. After he had spent the following season , in which the NHL season was canceled due to a lockout , with the Hershey Bears in the AHL, he returned to the Red Wings at the beginning of the 2005/06 season , but switched to theirs during the season League rivals Phoenix Coyotes . The season 2006/07 completed the junior world champion from 1995 at his ex-club St. Louis Blues, for which he was used as often as for their AHL farm team Peoria Rivermen .

In the 2007/08 season , the left-shooter was under contract for the first time in Europe and prepared three goals in 23 games for HK Spartak Moscow from the Russian Super League . The following season he returned to North America, where he held a leadership role as team captain for the reigning Calder Cup winner Chicago Wolves . After a season at HC Ambrì-Piotta in the Swiss National League A , the long-time NHL player signed a contract with the traditional Croatian club KHL Medveščak Zagreb from the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League for the 2010/11 season . Following this season, the defender ended his active career.

For the 2013/14 season he was appointed head coach of the newly founded St. Charles Chill from the Central Hockey League . With the dissolution of the CHL in summer 2014, these ceased operations.
