Shawn Hamilton Rivers (born January 30, 1971 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League and the Augsburger Panther in the German Ice Hockey League from 1988 to 1999 has played. His brother Jamie is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Shawn Rivers began his career as a hockey player in the team at St. Lawrence University , for which he was active parallel to his studies in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Then the defender played two years for the Canadian junior team Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League , before for the same length of time Atlanta Knights in the International Hockey League was on the ice, with whom he in the 1993/94 season the Turner Cup won . In addition, he completed his only four appearances in the National Hockey League for Atlanta's cooperation partner Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1992/93 season .

In the summer of 1994, Rivers moved within the IHL to the Chicago Wolves , but returned to the Atlanta Knights over the course of the following season , before ending the season with the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League . In the 1996/97 season , the left-handed shooter went to Europe for the first time, where he stood on the ice for the Augsburg Panthers in the German Ice Hockey League and scored 27 points in 48 games, including eight goals. The following year , Rivers played for four different teams. First he started the season at EHC Kloten in the Swiss National League A and then ran in North America successively for the Springfield Falcons in the AHL, the San Antonio Dragons in the IHL and the Lake Charles Ice Pirates in the Western Professional Hockey League . Most recently he spent the 1998/99 season at SG Saima Cortina-Milano in the Italian Serie A1 before ending his career prematurely at the age of 28.
