The Lake Charles Ice Pirates were an American ice hockey team from Lake Charles , Louisiana . The team played in the Western Professional Hockey League from 1997 to 2001 .
history
The Lake Charles Ice Pirates was founded in 1997 as a franchise of the Western Professional Hockey League . In this the team was one of six founding members. In their first season, the 1997/98 season, the team was looked after by former NHL player Dennis Maruk , among others , with the Canadian himself being on the ice as a player- coach in some games. The team completed their most successful season in the 1998/1999 season, when they won the playoffs for the President's Cup after victories over Central Texas Stampede and the Corpus Christi IceRays in the third round at the eventual champions Shreveport Mudbugs with 1: 4 wins in the Best-of-Seven series failed.
When the WPHL was dissolved following the 2000/01 season, the Lake Charles Ice Pirates were only one of four teams that did not move to the Central Hockey League , but was instead dissolved.
