The Arkansas GlacierCats were an American ice hockey team based in Little Rock , Arkansas . The team played in the Western Professional Hockey League from 1998 to 2000 .

history

The Arkansas GlacierCats were founded in 1998 as a franchise of the Western Professional Hockey League . Their first season, the 1998/99 season, they finished in fourth place in the WPHL East Division. With 79 points in 69 games, they immediately qualified for the playoffs for the President's Cup , in which they were defeated 1: 2 wins in the first round of the Monroe Moccasins in the best-of-three series. In the following season, the GlacierCats reached the playoffs again due to fourth place in the WPHL East Division, in which they were initially able to take revenge in the first round for the previous year's defeat at the Monroe Moccasins, before they beat Central Texas Stampede in the second round lost 3-1 in the best-of-seven series. Subsequently, the owners of the franchise, Ed Novess and Dan Hart from Austin , Texas , decided to take the team out of the WPHL's game operations and dissolve it.

The main reason for the out of the GlacierCats was the competition from the Arkansas RiverBlades from the East Coast Hockey League , who play in the neighboring town of North Little Rock and played their home games in the new Verizon Arena, which can hold more than twice as many spectators .
