The Waco Wizards were an American ice hockey team from Waco , Texas . The team played in the Western Professional Hockey League from 1996 to 2000 .

The Waco Wizards was founded in 1996 as a franchise of the Western Professional Hockey League . In this you were one of six founding members. After they were among the weaker teams in the league in the first two years, the Wizards completed their most successful season in the 1998/99 season. First they won the WPHL Central Division, making them the first time to reach the playoffs for the President's Cup . In the second playoff round, the Texans lost to the later finalist Shreveport Mudbugs in the best-of-three series with a sweep . Previously, they did not have to compete in the first play-off round due to the first place in their division thanks to a bye .

Due to financial problems, the Waco Wizards had to stop playing in the Western Professional Hockey League in the 1999/2000 season, after which the franchise was dissolved.
