history
The Abilene Aviators were founded in 1998 as a franchise of the Western Professional Hockey League . The team name was chosen based on the Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene . In their first season, the 1998/99 season, the Aviators, as winners of the WPHL West Division, immediately reached the playoffs for the President's Cup , in which they automatically moved into the second round due to their first place in their division defeated the Fort Worth Brahmas in the best-of-three series with a sweep . After the team was unable to continue the successful season from the previous year in the 1999/2000 season and had only six wins in 26 games, those responsible decided at the beginning of the season to take the club out of the WPHL and to dissolve it.
