The Amarillo Gorillas were an American ice hockey team from Amarillo , Texas . The team played in the Central Hockey League from 2001 to 2010 .
history
The Amarillo Gorillas were founded in 1996 under the name Amarillo Rattlers as a franchise of the Western Professional Hockey League , in which they were active until its dissolution following the 2000/01 season. After the WPHL merged with the Central Hockey League , the Rattlers joined them, playing under the old name for a year before adopting their new name Amarillo Gorillas in 2002. The team's greatest success was reaching the second playoff round for the Miron Cup in the 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons. After reaching the CHL play-offs in its first five seasons, Amarillo missed them twice in a row in 2008 and 2009.
Following the 2009/10 season, the franchise was dissolved and replaced by a franchise for the US Junior League North American Hockey League .
