The Youngstown SteelHounds were an American ice hockey team based in Youngstown , Ohio , that played in the CHL , a North American minor league , from 2005 to 2008 .
history
Since its inception, the team has played its home games at the 5,700-seat Chevrolet Center , their first win on November 4, 2005 with a 4-3 win against the Oklahoma City Blazers . At the end of the premiere season, the team finished second in the Northeast Division .
The name SteelHounds is derived from the steel industry , which has dominated Youngstown in the past and present, the team was owned by Herb Washington. Kevin Kaminski acted as trainer, Joe Gregory occupied the post of general manager. The main diet of the Crusher mascot was beef and crab, a nod to league rivals Fort Worth Brahmas and Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs .
Due to several violations of the statutes of the Central Hockey League, the franchise was officially excluded from playing on June 2, 2008.
