The Laredo Bucks were an American ice hockey team from Laredo , Texas in the Central Hockey League , a North American minor league . The team played its home games in the Laredo Entertainment Center with a capacity of 8,000 .

history

After the great success of the Central Hockey League in South Texas, Laredo decided to create the city's first professional sports franchise . On August 12, 2002, the construction of the US $ 46.5 million , state-of-the-art Laredo Entertainment Center was decided after citizens accepted a tax hike. Today the arena is operated by the SMG Management Group.

The newly founded team started their first CHL season in 2002/03 in the Southeast Division and thus in the Southern Conference . Already in this season an average attendance of 6,200 (78% occupancy) in the regular season and 6,500 visitors (81% occupancy) in the play-offs was achieved. In the 2003/04 and 2005/06 seasons, the team under head coach Terry Ruskowski won the Ray Miron President's Cup and thus the championship of the CHL. In the finals in 2005 and 2007, the Bucks failed each to the Colorado Eagles . In addition, the Bucks won the title of the Southeast Division five times in a row between 2003 and 2008.

Since it was founded from 2002 to 2007, the Laredo Bucks worked with the San Antonio Rampage from the American Hockey League , and from 2002 to 2005 the Florida Panthers were also cooperation partners in the National Hockey League . From 2005 to 2007, the Bucks were the Phoenix Coyotes farm team from the NHL.

After the 2011/12 season , the Laredo Bucks stopped playing with immediate effect. The team was then sold and relocated to Saint Charles , Missouri , where it took part in the league operations of the Central Hockey League under the name St. Charles Chill at the beginning of the 2013/14 season .
