The Nashville Ice Flyers were an American ice hockey team from Nashville , Tennessee . The team played in the Central Hockey League from 1996 to 1998 .

history

The team was founded in 1996 under the name Nashville Nighthawks as a franchise of the Central Hockey League . Their debut season, the 1996/97 season, they ended in fifth and thus last place in the Eastern Division. Out of 66 games they won only twelve and scored a total of 26 points. For the following season, those responsible changed the name of the franchise to Nashville Ice Flyers and increased significantly to 92 points in 70 games under their coach David Lohrei . With the second place in the Eastern Division they qualified for the playoffs for the Miron Cup , in which they after a sweep in the best-of-three series over the Huntsville Channel Cats , in the second round the eventual champion Columbus Cottonmouths in the Best-of-seven series with 2: 4 wins. The owners then dissolved the team after only two years.
