Emil Kiess

Emil Kiess (born February 10, 1930 in Trossingen ) is a German painter , sculptor and glass painter whose work can be attributed to conceptual painting .

life and work

Emil Kiess studied from 1949 to 1951 at the Bernstein School in Sulz am Neckar . Riccarda Gohr , HAP Grieshaber , Paul Kälberer and Hans Ludwig Pfeiffer were among his teachers there . From 1952 to 1953 he was a student of Willi Baumeister and P. O. Heim at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . Since 1953 he dealt mainly with stained glass.

In 1955 and 1958 Emil Kiess received the Upper Swabian Art Prize, in 1956 the Art Prize of Young West of the City of Recklinghausen , in 1958 the Premio Marzotto and 1960 the Premio G. B. Salvi. In 1960 he received a scholarship for the Villa Massimo in Rome . This phase of life led to a turning away from the concrete towards abstraction.

The Great BDA Prize followed in 1975 and in 1995 he received the title of professor from the state of Baden-Württemberg. Kiess painted the official portrait of Erwin Teufel for the gallery of the prime ministers of the state of Baden-Württemberg.

He furnished the St. Paul Minster in Esslingen am Neckar , the chapel of the Tuttlingen Clinic, the Trinity Church in Leutkirch and the Martin Luther Church in Ilvesheim with glass windows and provided the Luther Church in Kassel with concrete reliefs. He furnished the Church of St. Johannes Evangelist in Schönmünzach with 15 images of the Stations of the Cross, and the Church of St. Ida in Gremmendorf with a Stations of the Cross with six stations. Emil Kiess was also commissioned to work in public spaces. Emil Kiess's pictures and prints are in public collections and his works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in several countries. In 2008 a retrospective of his early work was shown at Glatt Palace . In the same year Kiess was involved in the exhibition Kunst Schau Platz 2008 in Meersburg and created a portrait of the former Prime Minister Erwin Teufel for the Villa Reitzenstein .

Emil Kiess is a member of the German Association of Artists . He lives and works in Fürstenberg (district of Hüfingen ).
