The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees were an American ice hockey team from Hidalgo , Texas . The team played in the Central Hockey League since the 2003/04 season .

history

The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees were founded in 2003 as a franchise of the Central Hockey League . In their inaugural season, the team qualified as runner-up in the Southeast Division straight away for the playoffs for the Miron Cup , in which, however, they were defeated in their first round by the eventual champion Laredo Bucks in the best-of-three series with a sweep . The Killer Bees achieved their greatest success with reaching the second playoff round in the 2008/09 season, in which they were defeated by the eventual champions with a sweep after defeating the Corpus Christi IceRays as in 2004. This time Rio Grande lost to the Texas Brahmas . After the 2011/12 season , the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees stopped playing.
