The Dayton Gems were an American ice hockey franchise based in Dayton , Ohio . You last played in the Central Hockey League from 2010 to 2012 .

history

The Dayton Gems were founded in 2009 as a franchise of the International Hockey League . The owners chose the team name based on the team of the same name that had played in the original International Hockey League for a long time . In their premiere season, the 2009/10 season, the Gems finished in seventh and last place in the IHL.

From the 2010/11 season, the Dayton Gems took part in the Central Hockey League . In July 2010, Brian Gratz was named head coach and general manager of the franchise, replacing the departed John Marks . After the 2011/12 season, however, the team stopped playing with immediate effect.
