The Madison Monsters were an American ice hockey team based in Madison , Wisconsin . The team played from 1995 to 1999 in the Colonial Hockey League (from 1997 United Hockey League).

history

The team was founded in 1995 as a franchise of the Colonial Hockey League . In their first three seasons, the Madison Monsters reached the first round of the playoffs for the Colonial Cup. In this they failed one after the other to the Thunder Bay Senators , their successor team Thunder Bay Thunder Cats and the later champion Quad City Mallards .

Following the 1998/99 season, in which the team had missed the playoffs for the first time, the franchise was relocated to Knoxville , Tennessee , where it then took part in the United Hockey League's game operations under the name Knoxville Speed .
