The Brantford Smoke were a Canadian ice hockey team from Brantford , Ontario . The team played in the Colonial Hockey League from 1991 to 1998 .

history

The team was founded in 1991 as a franchise of the Colonial Hockey League , which was held for the first time . Their most successful season completed the Brantford Smoke in the 1992/93 season, when they first won the Tarry Cup as the best team of the regular season and in the playoffs the Colonial Cup as champions of the CoHL. In the playoffs Brantford had prevailed against the Flint Bulldogs , Thunder Bay Thunder Hawks and St. Thomas Wildcats . In the following years, however, the Canadians did not get beyond the second playoff round.

Following the 1997/98 season, the franchise was relocated to Asheville , North Carolina , where it then took part in the game operations of the UHL, as the league was called from 1997, under the name Asheville Smoke .
