The Columbus Stars were an American ice hockey team based in Columbus , Ohio . The team played in the United Hockey League in the 2003/04 season .

history

The team was founded in 2003 as a franchise of the United Hockey League was founded. Although the Columbus Stars had a positive record with 19 wins and 15 defeats, they had to stop playing for financial reasons after just 34 days of play in their premiere season, the 2003/04 season. With an average of 973 spectators, the team was well below the league-wide average of around 3,000 spectators per game. This was mainly due to the overwhelming competition from the Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League . Added to this was the fact that the Ohio Expo Center Coliseum, with a capacity of 5,676 seats, cost too much to rent.
