The Asheville Smoke were an American ice hockey team from Asheville , North Carolina . The team played in the United Hockey League from 1998 to 2002 .

history

The franchise of the Brantford Smoke of the United Hockey League in 1998 of Brantford , Ontario , to Asheville, North Carolina, moved and renamed Asheville Smoke. After they were eliminated in their first two seasons in the first playoff round, the team reached in the 2000/01 season after first place in the regular season in the Southeast Division in the playoffs after a bye and wins over Knoxville Speed and the New Haven Knights the final of the Colonial Cup. In this they failed with 1: 4 wins in the best-of-seven series at the Quad City Mallards .

Following the 2001/02 season, in which Asheville Smoke had missed the playoffs for the first time, the franchise was dissolved.
