Alexander Jurjewitsch Fomitschow ( Russian Александр Юрьевич Фомичёв ; born February 19, 1979 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey goalkeeper .
Career
Alexander Fomitschow first went through the junior division of HK Dynamo Moscow before moving to North America in the summer of 1996. There he stood in the 1996/97 season in the goal of the St. Albert Saints from the Alberta Junior Hockey League . During the NHL Entry Draft 1997 he was selected in the summer of the Edmonton Oilers in the ninth round in 231st place and then moved to the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League . For the Hitmen, he completed two seasons as a regular goalkeeper and reached the playoffs with his team in both years. In 1998 the Hitmen were eliminated in the Eastern Conference final - a year later they won the WHL championship, the President's Cup . In the tournament for the Memorial Cup , Canada's junior championship, the hitmen failed in the final at the Ottawa 67’s .
In the following season Fomichev was given to the Seattle Thunderbirds after a game for Calgary , where he spent his last junior year. Fomichev still holds the Calgary Hitmen record for most goalkeeper appearances in a season and shots saved in a season.
Between 2000 and 2002 Fomitschow was used in various farm teams of the Oilers. He also came to six missions for the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League , but did not make it into the National Hockey League . Therefore, he decided to return to Russia in 2002 and initially played for Amur Khabarovsk in the Superliga and Pervaya League . At the end of the 2002/03 season he moved to HK Sibir Novosibirsk.
From 2004 to 2006 Fomichev played at HK CSKA Moscow . At HK Awangard Omsk he was under contract from 2006 to 2009 and was mostly a regular goalkeeper. In the 2008/09 season , however, he had strong competition with John Grahame and Adam Svoboda , so that his contract was not extended in the summer of 2009. Thereupon he was again obliged by HK Sibir Novosibirsk, but left this in December 2009 and moved to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod . For Torpedo Fomichev played until 2012 before he was signed by the THK Tver from the second division.
International
For the Russian national team , he took part in the U18 European Junior Championship in 1997 and the World Championships in 2004 and 2006 .
