Career
Adam Svoboda began his professional career in 1996 with HC Sparta Prague in the Czech extra league . In 1997 the Czech moved to HC Pardubice , where he initially played as the second goalkeeper behind Libor Barta. From the 1999/2000 season, the left catcher was finally the goalkeeper of HC Pardubice, to which he belonged until 2004.
In the 2004/05 DEL season , Svoboda was loaned to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers , where he was nicknamed "Siggi" because of a misprint on his first jersey. His cheerful and funny manner quickly made him a popular player in the Nürnberg Ice Tigers. In the 2005/06 season, the goalkeeper joined HK Lada Toljatti before completing a few games for Pardubice and spending the rest of the season at Timrå IK in the Swedish Elitserien . After three Extraliga games at the beginning of the 2006/07 season , the Czech moved to HC Slavia Prague , where he acted as a regular goalkeeper and was able to win the Czech championship in 2008 .
In January 2009, the goalie moved to HK Awangard Omsk in the Continental Hockey League , where he played eight games. For the 2009/10 season he returned to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers, but was only second goalkeeper behind Patrick Ehelechner and so only made eight appearances in the DEL.
In June 2010 Svoboda was again committed by HC Eaton Pardubice. This he left after one year and joined the 2011/12 season the HC Plzeň 1929 on. With this club he won the Czech championship again in 2013, but left him after this success and moved to HC Slavia Prague . His last stop in the Extraliga was Mountfield HK , for which he was used in 15 games in goal in the 2015/16 season.
The last stop in his playing career was the Kazakh club HK Beibarys Atyrau before ending his career in 2017. In 2018 he became a goalkeeping coach at HC Pardubice.
Svoboda died of suicide on May 7, 2019 .
International
In 1996 Adam Svoboda was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament at the U18 European Championship as a player in the Czech national junior team . A year later he took part in the Junior World Championship with the U20 youth team and came fourth. From 2001 the goalkeeper was repeatedly appointed to the national team for the games of the Euro Hockey Tour , but never made it to the selection team for World Championships or Olympic tournaments. Only in 2005 he was taken as a substitute goalkeeper and became world champion at the World Cup in Austria.
