The HC Dynamo Pardubice is a Czech ice hockey club from Pardubice . Until 2009 the club was named after the main sponsor HC Moeller Pardubice , but after Moeller GmbH was taken over by the Eaton Corporation , the club name also changed. In 2011, the ČSOB bank took over the main sponsorship of the association. Pardubice belongs to the Czech Extraliga , which was established in 1993, without interruption, which means that Pardubice has been first class for more than half a century.
history
Previously only practiced as a hobby sport, organized ice hockey developed in LTC Pardubice from 1925. In 1949, the club rose to the top division of what was then Czechoslovakia and never again from until its dissolution in 1993. In 1973, 1987 and 1989 the club became Czechoslovak ice hockey champions .
Ups and downs (1991-2002)
Before the 1991/92 season , the club was called HC Pardubice, as the patronage was ended by TESLA in the course of the economic upheaval. The club began the first season of the new, purely Czech extra league in 1993/94 with a mix of experienced and young players. With this squad, the club reached the play-off final against HC Olomouc , in which they lost 3-1. Despite this defeat, the placement was considered a success, especially since Radovan Biegl was named goalkeeper of the year and Richard Král won the top scorer's crown with 43 goals. In addition, the then 18-year-old Milan Hejduk was honored as the best young player and coach Marek Sýkora was named coach of the year .
In the following season , the team could not build on these successes and missed the play-offs. Instead, she had to compete in the playdowns, in which she finished tenth overall. The departure of regular players such as Král or Biegl was compensated for by the use of junior players, including Petr Sýkora , but this again led to missing the play-offs and starting the play-downs in the 1995/96 season . In these, the club renamed HC IPB Pojišťovna Pardubice again took tenth place.
In the summer of 1996, the club management engaged with Miloš Říha a new, young head coach, who should lead the team together with Josef Paleček . In the first season of his tenure, Říha finished fifth with the team in the main round and reached the play-off semi-finals against eventual champions HC Petra Vsetín . The services of the coach were recognized by the league when they named Miloš Říha as coach of the year . The then 25-year-old Dušan Salfický and Milan Hejduk were among the up-and-coming young players who made this success possible .
In 2001, extensive reconstruction work began on the ice rink, which was renamed Duhová Aréna after it was completed. In the 2001/02 season, two junior teams of the club were national champions of their age group, while the men's team was eliminated in the first play-off round.
Championships in the Czech Republic (since 2002)
The HC Pardubice reached in the 2003/04 season with 32 wins from 52 games to win the main round. This qualified the team for the play-offs, but failed in the first round in seven games at HC Lasselsberger Plzeň . With an average of 8,200 spectators, HC Pardubice had the most spectators in the Extraliga in the main round.
In the following season, many Czech players returned to their homeland due to the lockout in the National Hockey League . With Jan Bulis , Michal Mikeska and Milan Hejduk, HC Pardubice was able to offer a complete series of NHL players who finished one to three in the top scorer table at the end of the main round. The club also signed the Slovak goalkeeper Ján Lašák , who developed into an important pillar of the team. At the end of the main round, the team, which was led by captain Jiří Dopita , finished third in the table and qualified for the play-offs. In these, the team first defeated HC Rabat Kladno and then the Bílí Tygři Liberec and thus reached the final of the Czech championship against HC Hamé Zlín . The latter was defeated with a sweep , i.e. 4-0 wins. HC Pardubice won the first Czech championship title in the club's history. After the season, Aleš Hemský was awarded the MVP of the play-offs, Ján Lašák with the Golden Helmet and Michal Mikeska as Number One .
In the summer of 2009, many players of the so-called golden generation returned to the Czech Republic from the National Hockey League . One of these was Dominik Hasek , who made his comeback at HC Eaton Pardubice. Due to the global financial crisis, most of the Extraliga clubs cut their budgets by up to 25 percent. Therefore, the Czech clubs also had to sign more North American or Scandinavian players, as they demanded lower salaries compared to top Czech players. As a result, more non-Eastern European players will be playing in the 2009/10 season than ever since the Extraliga was founded. HC Eaton Pardubice signed Adam Pineault , Aaron MacKenzie and Jeff Jillson .
In the final of the play-offs 2010, the third in the preliminary round HC Eaton Pardubice met HC Vítkovice Steel . With a sweep , the team from Pardubice defeated the steelworkers from Ostrava 4-0. The club won the fifth championship title in the club's history and set two new records: no team had made twelve wins in the play-offs until 2010 and the 45-year-old goalkeeper Dominik Hašek was the oldest player ever to play in the Extraliga. The latter contributed to this success with outstanding performances, including a goal against goals of 1.68, three shutouts and a catch rate of 93.68 percent.
