Jan Bulis (born March 18, 1978 in Pardubice , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player . In the National Hockey League he completed a total of 587 games for the Washington Capitals , Montréal Canadiens and the Vancouver Canucks . He also played for Atlant Mytishchi and HK Traktor Chelyabinsk in the Continental Hockey League .
Career
Jan Bulis began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth of the Czech first division club HC Pardubice , where he was active until 1994. He then played for a year for the Kelowna Spartans in the British Columbia Hockey League , before the attacker was on the ice from 1995 to 1997 for the Barrie Colts in Canada's top junior league Ontario Hockey League . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1996 in the second round as a total of 43rd player by the Washington Capitals , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1997/98 season . In his rookie year , the left-handed shooter scored a total of 16 points in 48 games, including five goals. In his four years in the Washington Capitals franchise , the Czech also played for the OHL team Kingston Frontenacs and Washington's farm teams , the Cincinnati Cyclones from the International Hockey League and the Portland Pirates from the American Hockey League .
In March 2001 Bulis was transferred to the Montréal Canadiens , for which he was active in the NHL for the following five seasons. Only during the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season did he play in his Czech homeland at HC Pardubice from the Extraliga . With the team in whose offspring he had learned to play ice hockey, the center became Czech champions . After playing for the Vancouver Canucks in the NHL in the 2006/07 season , Bulis then moved back close to Europe, where he worked for Atlant Mytishchi until 2011 , initially in the Russian Super League and from the 2008/09 season in the newly founded continental Hockey league played.
In the summer of 2011 he moved to HK Tractor Chelyabinsk within the KHL and was under contract there until the end of the 2014/15 season. He then returned to the Czech Republic for family reasons, but remained without a contract. He officially announced the end of his sporting career in May 2016.
International
For the Czech Republic , Bulis took part in the 2006 World Cup and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
