history
The association was founded in 1947 as Dzerzhinez Chelyabinsk. As early as 1954, the name was changed to Avangard Tscheljabinsk, before the current name of Tractor Tscheljabinsk (after the Chelyabinsky Traktorny Sawod tractor factory located there ) was chosen four years later . Chelyabinsk celebrated its greatest success so far in the club's history in 1977 when it reached third place in the Vysschaya League and in 1993 when it reached third place in the IHL . The team had previously won the Pervaya League title in 1968. After the team was relegated from the Super League in 1999 , it was not until 2006 that they won the championship of the Vysschaya League and the associated promotion. Since the 2008/09 season , the team has been playing in the newly established Continental Hockey League .
