Andrei Viktorovich Sapozhnikov ( Russian Андрей Викторович Сапожников * 15. June 1971 in Chelyabinsk , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player , who in his active period from 1990 to 2007 included for the Wedemark Scorpions in the German Ice Hockey League has played and Russian Master with the HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk became. He has been an assistant trainer at HK Witjas since 2014 .
Career
Andrei Saposhnikov began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with HK tractor Chelyabinsk , for which he was active from 1990 to 1995 in the highest Soviet and Russian leagues. During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1993 in the fifth round as a total of 129th player by the Boston Bruins , for which he never played. Instead, he ended the 1994/95 season with their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Providence Bruins . The defender then spent a season at SHC Fassa from the Italian Serie A before moving to the Wedemark Scorpions from the German Ice Hockey League for the 1996/97 season. Shortly before the end of the season, however, he returned to the Russian Super League , where he received a contract with HC Metallurg Magnitogorsk .
Saposhnikov spent the 1997/98 season at his home club HK Traktor Chelyabinsk before moving to HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk for another two years. With Metallurg he won the Russian championship for the first and only time in his career in the 1998/99 season , as well as the European Hockey League at European level in 1999 and 2000 . From 2000 to 2004, the 1993 world champion was on the ice for Severstal Tscherepowez , with whom he failed in the playoff final against Lokomotive Yaroslavl in the 2002/03 season . After he had spent the 2004/05 season at Chimik Woskressensk in the Superliga and HK Metschel Tscheljabinsk in the second-rate Wysschaja Liga , the left-handed shooter was each under contract for a year at HK Avangard Omsk and Vityas Chekhov from the Superliga. With Omsk he was runner-up again in the 2005/06 season. He finally ended his career in 2007 at the age of 36.
International
For Russia , Saposhnikov took part in the 1993 World Cup, where he became world champion with his team.
