Ilya Igorewitsch Jeschow ( Russian Илья Игоревич Ежов ; born January 12, 1987 in Krasnodar , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with HK Vitjas from Podolsk in the Continental Hockey League since July 2019 .
Career
Ilya Jeschow began his career as a hockey player with the St. John's Fog Devils , for which he was active from 2005 to 2007 in the Canadian junior league QMJHL . He then played for a year for the Melfort Mustangs in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League , where he was named most valuable player in the league in the 2007/08 season and was elected to their first All-Star team. The goalkeeper then returned to his Russian homeland, where he was on the ice for the professional team of HK WMF Saint Petersburg from 2008 to 2011 - initially for two years in the Wysschaja Liga , the second Russian division, and in the 2010 / 11 in their successor competition Vysschaja Hockey League .
For the 2011/12 season , Jeschow was signed by SKA Saint Petersburg from the Continental Hockey League , for which he played regularly until 2014.
In September 2014, Jeschow was handed over by the SKA to the HK Lada Tolyatti and convinced there with very good performances, so that he was named KHL goalkeeper of the week twice. At the end of December 2014, he returned to the SKA in exchange for Yevgeny Ivannikov , where he served 18 KHL missions by 2016. In May 2016 he was signed again by Lada Tolyatti.
In the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, Jeschow was under contract with Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk and as a regular goalkeeper made 104 appearances in the KHL. In some cases he showed very good statistical values and was therefore invited to the KHL All-Star Game 2018 and awarded twice as goalkeeper of the week . In July 2019, Jeschow was signed by HK Vitjas from Podolsk .
