Jakub Jeřábek (born May 12, 1991 in Pilsen , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Vitjas in the Continental Hockey League again since June 2019 .
Career
Jakub Jeřábek began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of HC Plzeň in 1929 , with which he became the Czech U18 champions in 2008. From 2008 he played in addition to his appearances in the U20 team of the club also in the Czech extra league . Until 2012 he was also loaned out to teams from the second-rate first division and won this in 2011 with HC Slovan Ústečtí Lvi , who had hired him for the playoffs. In the same year he was drawn by HC Lev Poprad in the fourth round of the KHL Junior Draft as the 109th player, but subsequently stayed with his home club, for which he has played exclusively since 2012. In 2013 he won the Czech national championship title with the club, which has since been renamed HC Škoda Plzeň .
After the 2015/16 season, in which he was named the best defender in the Extraliga, Jeřábek moved to the Continental Hockey League for HK Vitjas from Podolsk . There he spent a season, was appointed to the KHL All-Star Game and then signed a one-year contract with the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League (NHL) in May 2017 . There he was in roughly equal parts in the NHL and in the Canadiens farm team , the Rocket de Laval , in the American Hockey League . In February 2018, the Canadiens handed him over to the Washington Capitals and received five-round voting rights for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft . With the Capitals he subsequently won the Stanley Cup , although he was not immortalized on the trophy because he had only played two games in the playoffs. His expiring contract was not renewed in the summer of 2018 before he found a new employer in the Edmonton Oilers in August 2018 . Before the start of the new season, however, the Oilers gave him to the St. Louis Blues in October 2018 and in return received a conditional six- round vote for the 2020 NHL Entry Draft .
International
For the Czech Republic, Jeřábek took part in the junior division of the U18 World Cup in 2009 and the U20 title fights in 2010 and 2011 . He played his first game in the Czech men's selection in the 2010/11 season. However, he made his tournament debut on the Euro Hockey Tour 2015/16 , where he played six times. He then represented his home country at the 2016 and 2017 World Championships .
