The HC Lev Poprad was founded in 2010 hockey club based in the Slovak town of Poprad . The team played in the Continental Hockey League in the 2011/12 season . The home games took place in the Zimný štadión Poprad with a capacity of 4464 . The club shared the stadium with HK Poprad from the Slovak Extra League , who also served as the farm team for HC Lev. The Tatranskí Vlci ( English Tatra Wolves ) from the MHL junior league formed the HC Lev junior team and played their home games in Spišská Nová Ves .

After negotiations about joining the Continental Hockey League between the Czech Ice Hockey Federation and HC Lev Hradec Králové from the Czech Extraliga failed, the club's management decided to relocate the team to Poprad , Slovakia , where it will be from the 2010 / 11 should take part in the KHL under the name HC Lev Poprad. The team was divided into the Bobrow Division for its premiere season . On 23 July 2010, the Association Pro-Hokej, representing the interests of clubs in the Slovak gave Extraliga represents, willingness to participate in the club at the KHL, the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation SZLH should on Monday, July 26 to give his decision. In May 2011, with the permission of the Slovak Association, the club was finally accepted into the KHL and began playing for the 2011/12 season . At the same time, a junior team for the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja League was founded with the Tatranskí Vlci . The Czech Radim Rulík was signed as the head coach of HC Lev Poprad . HC Lev Poprad played its first KHL game on September 12, 2011, when the Russian representative HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk lost 4-2 in their own stadium. The team scored the first point away in the 3: 4 defeat after penalty shoot-out at Atlant Mytishchi on September 21, 2011. The first victory in franchise history was finally won on September 26, 2011 in the away game against Dinamo Riga from Latvia. In its first and only KHL season, HC Lev finally finished sixth and thus last place in the Bobrow Division in the main round, which clearly missed the KHL play-offs. HC Lev won only 16 of the 54 games. Despite the low sporting success, HC Lev Poprad had an average attendance of over 4,000 visitors per game and an occupancy rate of over 90 percent.

After the Czech Ice Hockey Federation gave its permission, HC Lev was finally relocated to Prague in spring 2012 , where it competed in the KHL under the name HC Lev Prague until 2014 . The relocation also resulted in the end of the MHL team Tatranskí Vlci.

The relocation of HC Lev meant not only a sporting loss for the Poprad region, but also an economic one. In September 2012 the debts of HC Lev Poprad amounted to 1,939,472.31 euros, with the club only having 140,000 euros of equity available. The creditors included not only local companies, but also several players and coaches who were demanding unpaid wages.
