Ľuboš Bartečko (born July 14, 1976 in Kežmarok , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak ice hockey player and today's coach. In the National Hockey League he completed a total of 269 games for the St. Louis Blues and Atlanta Thrashers . In Europe he played for HK Dynamo Moscow , Luleå HF , HC Lev Prague and his hometown club HK Poprad, among others . Since retiring from his career, he has worked as a college and junior coach in the greater St. Louis area .
Career
Ľuboš Bartečko began his career as an ice hockey player at ŠKP PS Poprad , for which he was active in the extra league from 1993 to 1995 . He then played for one season each for the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and the Drummondville Voltigeurs from the Canadian Junior League Quebec Major Junior Hockey League , before he was committed to St. Louis Blues in 1998 , for which he played in the National Hockey League from 1998 to 2001 . Before that, he was already on the ice for their farm team , the Worcester IceCats from the American Hockey League, in the 1997/98 season . After two years with the Atlanta Thrashers , Bartečko returned to Europe, where he was under contract with HC Sparta Prague from the Czech Extraliga in the 2003/04 season .
For the 2004/05 season, the Slovak signed with HK Dynamo Moscow , with whom he became Russian champion . From summer 2005 Bartečko played at Luleå HF in the Swedish Elitserien , where he began each season in the Slovak Extraliga to get a tax-deductible half-year contract in Sweden. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season Ľuboš Bartečko played at SC Bern in Switzerland, where he had signed a one-year contract. In January 2010, he moved to Färjestad BK in exchange for Lee Goren , after he was rarely used at SC Bern. From September 2010 he was back under contract with his home club, for which he scored 13 scorer points in 13 games. In December 2010 he was hired by MODO Hockey together with Ladislav Nagy .
After 35 games for MODO, he left the club again and was signed by HC Lev Poprad from the Continental Hockey League in July 2011 .
After 21 years as a professional ice hockey player and his last season for his hometown club HK ŠKP Poprad (2015/16), Bartečko ended his career and in August 2016 became assistant coach at McKendree University from ACHA Division II. At the same time, he works as a junior coach, including for the St. Louis Blues AAA , the youth organization of the Blues.
International
For Slovakia , Bartečko took part in the A World Championships in 2000 , 2002 , 2004 , 2005 , 2009 and 2011 . He was also in the Slovak squad at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , 2006 in Turin and 2010 in Vancouver .
