The MHK SkiPark Kežmarok is an ice hockey club from Kežmarok , Slovakia , which played in the top division of Slovakia, the Slovnaft Extraliga , between 2007 and 2009 and otherwise belonged to the first division .

history

The association was founded in Kežmarok in 1931. In the 1970s and 1980s, the club played in the third-class 2nd SNHL, before the team of HK 31 Kežmarok in 1991 mastered promotion to the 1st SNHL. For a few years the club was able to hold its own in the second division of Slovakia, but only took eleventh place in the 1998/99 season. Therefore, the club had to relegate again to the third division. In the following seasons, the club stayed in the midfield of this division, before promotion to the 1st division in 2006 as part of an increase in this division could be realized.

In the following season, the MHK Kežmarok reached second place in the regular season. In the playoffs, the club then prevailed 4-0 against the ŠHK 37 Pieštany and the HC 05 Banská Bystrica . In the final, the team met the HK Spišská Nová Ves ice hockey team , which was defeated 4-2. However, in order to be allowed to move up to the extra league, the MHK Kežmarok had to buy the license for the highest junior division from his final opponent, as this is a condition for participation in the extra league. In the following two seasons the team belonged to the Extraliga, but was placed at the bottom of the table in both years. In 2009, the relegation to the first division followed when the team lost the relegation series against HK Spišská Nová Ves. From 2009 the MHK Kežmarok acted as the farm team of HK Poprad , so that the best players left the club and moved to Poprad. In return, the Poprad club loaned some junior players to the MHK.

In spring 2010 the ice rink in Kežmarok was from a flood inundated and thereby destroyed. Since then, the club's game operations have been suspended.
