history

The ŠHK 37 Piešťany was founded in 1937 as the ice hockey department of the ŠK Piešťany . In the same year, the department was spun off as PHK Piešťany , which subsequently took part in regional gaming operations as an amateur club.

In the 1980s, the club renamed Chirana Piešťany belonged to the third division of Czechoslovakia, the 2nd SNHL. The men's team won their championship in 1985.

After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia and the division into the independent states of the Czech Republic and Slovakia , the ŠHK 37 Piešťany was included in the second-class 1st league , in which he played until 1997. After relegation to the 2nd division followed a year later, at the end of the 1997/98 season, with the championship title in the 2nd division, promotion to the 1st division. As HK VTJ Marat Piešťany , the club only held one season in this division and took part in the second division between 1999 and 2003. In the 2002/03 season Piešťany won the championship of the 2nd division and achieved promotion to the 1st division.

In 2010 and 2011 the club, renamed ŠHK 37 Piešťany in 2004, won the championship of the first division, but failed in the league relegation against the loser of the extraliga play-outs. In spring 2012, the club's management speculated about participating in the EBEL and submitted an application for membership, but the Slovak association refused to approve the project.

With the inclusion of HC Slovan Bratislava in the Continental Hockey League , the HK Spišská Nová Ves , MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš , HC Prešov , HC Dukla Senica and the ŠHK 37 Piešťany applied for admission to the Extraliga. The Slovak Ice Hockey Association decided at the end of May 2012 for the ŠHK 37 Piešťany as a promoter to the extra league.

After the 2015/26 season, the club sold its Extraliga license to the MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš and has played in the third-class 2nd division ever since.
