The HC Sparta Prague (officially: HC Sparta Praha as ) is a Czech ice hockey team from Prague , in the top division the Czech Republic, Extraliga plays.
Club history
In 1903 a bandy department was founded in the sports club Sparta Prague , from which an ice hockey club emerged in 1909. This belonged to the highest Czechoslovak league from its foundation in 1936 to its dissolution in 1993 with the exception of the 1950/51 season. Sparta won four championships, two in the mid-1950s and two in the early 1990s. So far, Sparta has celebrated four championship titles in the independent Czech league. In addition to these national successes, the team also took part in several international tournaments, winning the Spengler Cup in 1962 and 1963 . In addition, the team was twice in the final of a European club competition: in 2000 Sparta lost the final of the European Hockey League against HC Metallurg Magnitogorsk , eight years later Sparta was again second in the IIHF European Champions Cup 2008 behind HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk .

Home ground
Sparta Prague played its home games in the Tipsport Arena , the second largest ice rink in the Czech Republic with 14,475 seats (the official number of spectators for the sold-out game against Slavia Praha on April 21, 2006). HC Sparta Prague has played its games in the O₂ Arena with over 17,000 seats since 2015 . After the main round in 2018/19 , the club was able to generate an average of 9,042 spectators per game and was therefore in 9th place in Europe. The occupancy rate of just 53.07% was the worst of all the teams in the top ten.
Placements since 1993
Since the establishment of the Czech Extraliga in 1993, HC Sparta Prague has won four championships and has often advanced to the playoff semi-finals.
