Petr Vrána (born March 29, 1985 in Šternberk , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Oceláři Třinec in the Czech extra league since January 2019 .

Career

Petr Vrána began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of HC Olomouc , where he was active until 2001. He then moved to the youth department of HC Havířov , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Czech extra league in the 2001/02 season . In six games he stayed without points and received four penalty minutes. From 2002 to 2005 the center played for the Halifax Mooseheads in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . Especially in his first junior year in Canada, he was able to convince when he received the Coupe RDS as rookie of the year and the trophy Michel Bergeron as the best offensive rookie of the LHJMQ in the 2002/03 season . He was also elected to the league's all-rookie team.

In the 2005/06 season Vrána played in the American Hockey League for the Albany River Rats , the then farm team of the New Jersey Devils , who had already selected him in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as a 42nd player. In the following three years, the Czech played mostly for New Jersey's new AHL farm team Lowell Devils , where he in the 2007/08 season at the AHL All-Star Classic participated. In the 2008/09 season he scored a goal in 16 games in the National Hockey League for the New Jersey Devils . After seven years in North America, the former junior international returned to his Czech homeland for the 2009/10 season , where he joined HC Vítkovice , with whom he immediately became runner-up. After another season at Vítkovice, he was committed for the 2011/12 season by Amur Khabarovsk from the Continental Hockey League . For Amur, he completed 46 KHL games in which he scored 43 points scorer. He was the second best scorer within the team behind Jakub Petružálek .

In May 2012 Vrána was awarded a two-year contract by HC Lev Prague and reached the play-off final with the Czech KHL participant in 2014. After the club's withdrawal before the 2014/15 season, Vrána moved to Atlant Moskowskaja Oblast in the league . Due to the club's financial problems, Vrána was transferred to Ak Bars Kazan in December 2014 against payment of compensation, where Vrána had played 42 games by the end of the season. In summer 2015, the Czech moved to Brynäs IF in the Svenska Hockeyligan .

International

For the Czech Republic , Vrána took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2005 . During the tournament he scored five goals and three assists in seven games and led his team as team captain to win the bronze medal.
