The Halifax Mooseheads are a professional Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Halifax , Nova Scotia and playing in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League . The franchise plays its home games at the Scotiabank Center , which is one of the most visited stadiums in the entire league.
history
When the Mooseheads were founded for the 1994/95 season, they were the first professional junior team from the Atlantic provinces of Canada, but now six other teams have done the same. In 2000, the franchise hosted the Memorial Cup , the championship of the umbrella organization CHL , which is played annually between the champions of Canada's top three junior leagues , WHL , OHL and QMJHL. As hosts, the Mooseheads were automatically qualified and finally finished the tournament in third place. In 2003 the team was in the final of the QMJHL play-offs, but lost there against the Hull Olympiques in seven games, in 2005 they failed again only in the final, this time Rimouski Oceanic (in four games). The franchise originally belonged to the Moosehead Brewery from Saint John, which then sold the rights to former NHL player Bobby Smith in 2003 .
