David Brine (born January 6, 1985 in Truro , Nova Scotia , Canada ) is a Canadian ice hockey player with Croatian citizenship who has been under contract with Újpesti TE in the First League since December 2018 .
Career
David Brine began his career as a hockey player in various Canadian youth teams. From 2003 to 2006 he played with the Halifax Mooseheads in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , one of the three major Canadian junior leagues. As early as 2001, the Québec Remparts had drawn him in the QMJHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as a total of 68th player, but without signing him. Towards the end of the 2005/06 season he moved to Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League . The following four years he played mostly with the Rochester Americans also in the AHL, but was also used in the Florida Everblades in the ECHL . In the 2007/08 season he also came to nine missions with the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League . After another AHL year at San Antonio Rampage , he moved to Europe and played in the Austrian ice hockey league at KHL Medveščak Zagreb from 2011 to 2013 , but was also used in the playoffs of the Croatian ice hockey league, where he was Croatian champions in 2012 and 2013 . After a year with High1 in the Asia League Ice Hockey , he returned to Europe in 2014. There he played in Denmark, Germany and Italy. In 2015/16 he played for the Löwen Frankfurt in the DEL2 . He then moved to the Cardiff Devils , with whom he won the main round of the Elite Ice Hockey League in 2017 and thus the British championship and the Challenge Cup .
In the early summer of 2017 he returned to the KHL Medveščak Zagreb and played for Zagreb in the EBEL until December 2018. Due to financial problems, Brine left the club on December 20, 2018 and moved to Újpesti TE in the first division .
International
After being naturalized to Croatia, Brine first played at the 2016 World Cup in Division I of the Croatian national ice hockey team. Also in 2017 and 2018 he played for the Balkan state in Division I.
