history

Aalborg BK's ice hockey department was founded in 1967. The team was able to attract attention for the first time in the 1975/76 season when they finished second in the AL-Bank Ligaen , the highest Danish division. After 13 years of membership in Aalborg BK, the ice hockey department officially separated from the regular club in 1980 and a year later became the first and so far only Danish champions . This success could not be repeated despite nine further second places - including five defeats in the final since 2004. In 1997 the club merged with the Aalborg ice hockey club . This resulted in the club being renamed Aalborg Ishockey Klub . When the club ran into financial difficulties in 2003, the decision was made to transfer the gaming license back to Aalborg BK, when the club's ice hockey department was founded in 1967 and the name was changed back to AaB Ishockey.

In June 2012, the AaB team was initially signed off from the game. The license was then sold to a new operator, Aalborg Hockey A / S, and the team was re-registered under the name Aalborg Pirates .
