The European Ice Hockey Cup in the 1981/82 season was the 17th edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF . The competition began in October 1981; the final was played in August 1982. A total of 18 teams took part. The CSKA Moscow defended the title for the fourth time in a row.

Mode and participants

The national champions of the game year 1980/81 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was played in the knockout system in a two-legged manner. The final was played in a group of four in the mode everyone against everyone.

The first round games were played on October 14th and 28th, 1981. Twelve teams played the six qualifiers for the second round.

3rd round

The third round games were played on December 5, 1981 and January 3, 1982. The four winners of the second round and the four seeded participants - Kärpät Oulu, Färjestad BK Karlstad, TJ Vítkovice and the defending champion CSKA Moscow - played the four qualifiers for the final tournament.
