The IIHF Continental Cup in 1998 was the second edition of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF discharged competition . A total of 49 teams from 26 countries took part. The final round was held from December 27 to 29, 1998 in Košice , Slovakia .
One final round participant was set, the host and last year's winner HC Košice . The three other finalists were determined in three qualifying rounds.
First round
Group A
The matches of Group A took place between 18 and 20 September 1998 at the French Lyon instead. The Norwegian team from Asker prevailed.

Group C was played in Novi Sad, Serbia, with hosts HK Vojvodina Novi Sad not getting beyond third place. The Ukrainian representative HK Berkut Kyiv qualified with three wins for the second round of the cup competition.

Group O
Group O was held in Ambrì in the Swiss canton of Ticino . The host club, HC Ambrì-Piotta , dominated the tournament with three wins, making it into the final. The venue was the 7,000-seat Pista la Valascia . The big disappointment of the tournament was the Austrian representative EHC Graz , who only suffered defeats and went bankrupt that same year.

In the decisive game for the tournament victory, the team from Omsk managed a 4-0 victory against the hosts and thus reached the final of the Continental Cup.
